Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation

🔦Funder Spotlight🔦

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation is one of the largest private charitable foundations in the U.S., distributing approximately $150 million annually.

Their mission is strictly focused on fighting poverty by providing direct services to low-income and vulnerable populations.

The foundation organizes its grantmaking into five core focus areas:

Housing: Supporting organizations that provide safe and affordable housing.

Health: Assisting programs that help individuals lead healthy lives.

Jobs: Aiding organizations that help people secure and keep quality jobs.

Education: Funding high-quality academic and developmental opportunities for youth.

Aging: Supporting services that help older adults remain independent with dignity.

Grant Types: The Foundation provides capital, operating, and program grants.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be a U.S. registered nonprofit with 501(c)(3) status or an Israeli equivalent.

Organizations must provide direct services to low-income populations; the Foundation generally does not fund research, policy work, or individuals.

Applicants should have a track record, including audited financial statements or external financial reviews.

Funding primarily targets specific priority communities: Baltimore, Hawaiʻi, Israel, New York City, Northeastern Pennsylvania, and San Francisco.

Application Process:

The process begins with an introductory email to grantsintake@hjweinberg.org to discuss the proposed project with a program team member.

If invited, the organization submits a three-page Letter of Inquiry (LOI).

The Foundation reviews LOIs on a rolling basis and will notify applicants within 45 days of receiving the LOI whether they are invited to submit a full grant proposal.
